Engineers Pass Arduous Test, Earn Licenses

San Diego, CA – Burkett & Wong Engineers would like to congratulate Charlie Colvin and Jeff Densley for earning their California Structural Engineer licenses. In the State of California, qualified Professional Engineers are allowed to design virtually any type of building with the exception of public schools and hospitals. Each of these types of facilities have their own review agency whose processes and regulations are more rigorous than any other public review agency. Only those Professional Engineers who pass an additional 16 hour exam to obtain licensure as a Structural Engineer can legally design these types of facilities. According to the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, only 29% of the engineers who took the test in 2010 passed.

Mr. Colvin has been with Burkett & Wong Engineers since 2003 and is currently a Principal Associate in the Structural Engineering Department. He works on a variety of structural engineering projects with responsibilities that include providing design, construction administration and project management. He continues to facilitate the requirements of several large institutions and Fortune 500 companies on an as-needed basis for Structural Engineering design of new construction, retrofit and repair needs.

The State of California has also certified Mr. Colvin as a Disaster Service Worker under the Safety Assessment Program which evaluates facilities in the aftermath of a disastrous event. In addition to his California licenses, Mr. Colvin is also licensed in Texas and Arizona. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of California and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. He holds a Bachelor degree in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Mr. Densley joined Burkett & Wong Engineers in 2008 and is currently a Project Manager for the Structural Engineering Department. He has provided structural engineering design and consultation for various project types including hospitality, commercial and industrial buildings. His five years of experience prior to joining Burkett & Wong Engineers was acquired at a firm that primarily worked on large infrastructure projects. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego. He graduated Magna Cum Laude both times. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of California and the American Institute of Steel Construction.
